Fleet Transportation, LLC lands GSA Contract

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Washington, D.C.- Fleet Transportation, LLC, a premier provider of ground transportation services, is a proven environmental leader in the Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland area. Since April 2008, Fleet Transportation has been a member of Green Ride Global (GRG) and has been committed to reducing their carbon footprint.

Through Fleet Transportation’s membership in Green Ride Global, they are able to fulfill the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) mandate of tracking greenhouse gas emissions under President Obama’s Executive Order 13514, which requires Federal government departments to track the carbon emissions from their operations, including business travel. Fleet Transportation’s environmental program and commitment is aligned with the GSA’s goal of reducing Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 43.9% below the FY 2008 baseline by FY 2020, as per the GSA Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan. Scope 3 emissions are GHG emissions from indirect sources, including employee commute and business travel.

With environmental concerns on the rise, governments and corporations alike are taking action towards environmental conservation and protection. The transportation end-use sector represents one of the largest source of GHG emissions in the US. In 2010, transportation made up 27% of the total GHG emissions in the US, according to the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks 1990-2010. Fleet Transportation supports the work of the US EPA Centre for Corporate Climate Leadership and the National Energy Conservation Act in their business operations. Fleet Transportation aims to reduce its carbon footprint and conserve energy, particularly by investing in fuel efficiency.

GRG has seen notable improvements in Fleet Transportation’s carbon footprint over the years. Since their baseline year in 2008, Fleet Transportation improved its fleet fuel efficiency (MPG) by 43%. About 41% of its fleet runs on diesel fuel, which has greater energy content than petroleum fuel. Furthermore, Fleet Transportation’s average fleet GHG intensity has decreased from 0.18 t CO2e per 100 miles to 0.16 t CO2e per 100 miles since 2008, which is equivalent to approximately 10% reduction in average fleet GHG intensity.

Fleet Transportation has taken many initiatives to reduce their environmental impact over the years, including transitioning to new technologies, educating chauffeurs and employees, reducing electricity consumption in their facilities, and implementing recycling programs.

“Fleet Transportation has demonstrated environmental leadership in their service areas and in the ground transportation industry” said Elaine Tran, Program Manager at Green Ride Global. “Their sustainability progress makes Fleet Transportation an important role model in the industry”.

Corporate Trends of 2013: Sustainability Isn’t Dead

Friday, March 8th, 2013

A recent article by Chauffeur Driven Magazine discusses sustainability as one of the corporate trends of 2013. An excerpt from the article is shown below:

“Like it or not and even though price, quality, brand, and convenience will continue to be the primary drivers in the decision-making process, in 2013 we will see sustainability increasingly a part of the supplier selection process for corporate buyers. More companies want to track their transportation program”s carbon footprint (the emissions associated with their trips). This is especially important if the company you are dealing with is multinational.

As global players, companies are concerned with stricter reporting rules imposed by various governments (EU countries, for example). If you can’t provide detailed emissions reporting, don’t expect to be competitive in RFPs tendered in 2013.”

Green Ride Global (GRG), an industry program from The Carbon Accounting Company™, can vouch for the statements made by Chauffeur Driven above. Many Green Ride Global members are seeing a greater demand from corporate transportation buyers for carbon footprint reporting. GRG provides transportation providers with detailed emissions reporting that allows them to become more competitive and accountable for their environmental impacts.

Green Ride Global Member Angel Worldwide Orders Tesla Electric Sedan

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

Angel Worldwide owner/operator Goldie Bhullar, operations manager Dustin Baker, executive chauffeur Michael Rosas, and COO Raj Mehta look forward to adding an all-electric Tesla S luxury sedan to their San Francisco Bay Area chauffeured fleet in the summer of 2013, becoming one of the first, if not the first, chauffeured transportation operators to deploy the Tesla S.

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. – Angel Worldwide Transportation on Nov. 8 ordered a Tesla S sedan, a full-electric model that combines luxury, efficiency and sport sedan flair. The 27-vehicle company appears to be the first chauffeured transportation company in the nation to order a Tesla S for fleet service.

Owner/Operator Goldie Bhullar expects to take delivery of the black-on-black vehicle, manufactured by Tesla Motors in nearby Fremont, Calif., by the summer of 2013. Bhullar ordered the vehicle after hearing from premium sedan clients who indicated they swould be willing to ride in an electric luxury vehicle. .

“This is something we’ve always wanted and something different in our fleet,” said Bhullar, whose post-Town Car fleet strategy has been to offer as much variety and flexibility as possible with different vehicles. “I test drove it. it’s an awesome vehicle.”

Bhullar reports that the legroom and trunk space ranges between that of a Lincoln Town Car and a Lincoln MKT Town Car. It has comfortable leather seats, can fit three passengers in the rear seat, and has active air suspension, which costs an additional $1,500, for a smoother ride. “There is no drive shaft in the middle. We sat three people in the back and they were comfortable.”

The Tesla S electric luxury sedan retails for about $90,000 but can save a chauffeured fleet operator about $3,000 a month in fuel costs.

Because the vehicle is electric, it does not need most of the conventional parts of a gasoline vehicle. That results in low operating and maintenance costs. “There are no mechanical parts in there to break down,” Bhullar said. “There”s only one [main] moving part and need to [replace] that part every five years.”

Maintenance costs about $600 through Tesla, which covers all tests, software updates, battery maintenance, brakes, pads and wiper blades. The battery has a warranty of eight years with unlimited miles.

The Tesla S is built with three different battery/power configurations. The most powerful battery is an 85 kilowatt model that offers a maximum traveling range up to 300 miles between charges. Bhullar estimates the Tesla S will save his company $3,000 to $3,500 per month in the gas costs typical of a Lincoln Town Car sedan.

Tesla offers its clients free electric power from charging stations at its company headquarters that recharge many times faster than conventional stations, resulting in an average charge time of about one hour. As one of the greenest and most energy progressive regions in the U.S., the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area has scores of public EV charging stations at government owned and run facilities, with more than 50 such charging stations in the city of San Francisco alone as of this past summer, according to the San Francisco Water-Power-Sewer utility.

Bhullar plans to offer the Tesla S as a premium-level chauffeured sedan with an estimated rate of about $75 to $80 per hour, making it similar in rate to the Mercedes-Benz S550 sedan.
